1 Corinthians 4:16,17 – teachings in the ecclesia

I am entreating you, then, become imitators of me. Therefore I send to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, who will be reminding you of my ways which are in Christ Jesus, according as I am teaching everywhere in every ecclesia.

Paul had begotten (in a manner of speaking) the Corinthians. By telling them the good message, they became believers. Now, as a father he encourages them: imitate me. He was their role model, exactly what children need.

As well as the Corinthians (: 14), Paul also calls Timothy his “beloved child”.  Already a few years earlier, Timothy had become a believer, by the preaching of Paul. And he directly had become his faithful fellow worker. Together they worked in Corinth and Timothy was sent back to Corinth by Paul.  For there was a great need for clear teaching. And Paul was not positive about the teaching they mostly got…

Paul would do everything to make the Corinthians focussed again. To remind them of the ways Christ Jesus went through him. And of the wisdom that GOD made known to him. Of what no eye or ear perceived!
