1 Corinthians 15:58 – The work of the Lord

07-04-2020 - Posted by Andre Piet

So that, my beloved brethren, become settled, unmovable, superabounding in the work of the Lord always, being aware that your toil is not for naught in the Lord.

The last verse of this chapter serves as a conclusion from all of the foregoing. Hence the opening words “so that …”. So given the fact that Christ was raised from the dead as a firstfruits, this is the logical conclusion. We are talking about a fact. Something that is absolutely certain and that there is nothing to add or subtract. So you can stand on it, like on a rock. Because it does not yield and it is separate from opinions and emotions. Is not that great?! The truth of the resurrection is not only a historical fact but it is also a guarantee for the future. A solid foundation of hope and expectation.

Those who are steadfast and unyielding in this will always be “superabounding in the work of the Lord”. It does not say: abounding in the work for the Lord. In that case it would be our work for Him. No, it is the work of the Lord. Not we would work. He does his job, superabundantly. When? If we are steadfast and unyielding.
