Galatians 2:16 – The faith of Christ (2)

Despite the fact that most modern translations do not want it, Paul speaks here on the one hand about our faith in Christ Jesus and on the other hand twice about the faith of Jesus Christ. This “of Jesus Christ” (> genitive) means that it is about his faith that justifies us.
First, we think of the faith that Jesus Christ showed when He walked on earth in confidence in the way God had predestined for Him. In Hebrews 12:2 we read that He did not count the shame and endured the cross because of the joy that God had set before Him (in the Scriptures) (Heb.12:2; 10:7).
The expression “faith of Christ” also defines us by the fact that our faith is not our own, but His. It is the result of his persuasiveness. Our faith comes from Him. As Romans 10:17 says, “Faith is out of tidings yet the tidings through a declaration of Christ.” Nothing of our own, everything is His!
