Romans 2:4 – What leads to contemplation

Or are you despising the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, being ignorant that the kindness of God is leading you to contemplation?

When Jesus asked Peter to go to deep water to set out his nets (Luke 5: 4), Peter objected. Still he did and what turned out? The nets were packed with fish! Friends in another boat had to help but even both boats together could not store the abundance of fish. When Peter saw that, he fell down before Jesus and said, “Come away from me, for a man, a sinner am I Lord!” He hadn’t heard a huge rant or words of condemnation. No, it was the kindness of the Lord that brought Peter to his senses.

There are many preachers who threaten with “hell and condemnation” (a lie, by the way!) and in this way try to convert the audience. And often successfully too. But it is fear-driven “conversion.” Salvation egoism. Not based on trusting GOD but just mistrusting Him.

True biblical contemplation (Gr. Metanoia) is the result of GOD’s rich kindness. Such preaching leads to genuine contemplation. It is GOD’s good message that touches hearts and brings people to their senses and knees.
