1 Corinthians 15:5 – He was seen by Cephas…(2)

And he was seen by Cephas…

On the early morning of the rousing and resurrection, Mary Magdalene saw that the stone in front of Jesus’ grave had been rolled away. She alerts Peter and John who apparently had spent the night close by. They hurry to look and indeed find an empty grave. Peter enters the grave and sees the swaddlings. Also the sweat cloth still in the shape of the head: rolled up (John 20: 7). But they themselves don’t see Jesus…

Moments later, when the angels address the other women, they are told they would report “to the disciples and Peter” (Mar.16: 7). Along the way, the living Lord also appears to these women, just as before to Mary Magdalene. However, the disciples dismiss the story as nonsense. Yet Peter goes to the grave again for a double check (Luke 24:12). Was he perhaps extra triggered by the fact that his name was specially mentioned?

Anyway, the Lord also appears that evening to two men who were on their way to Emmaus. When they then return enthusiastically to Jerusalem to report to the disciples, they are first told: “The Lord is truly resurrected and seen by Simon …”! Simon Peter, the first of “the twelve”!
