1 Corinthians 10:1-3 – All!
10-07-2019 - Posted by Andre PietFor I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, that our fathers all were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all are baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food…
Paul draws the attention of the Corinthians (“you”) to the history of “our fathers”, i.e. those of the senders Paul and Sosthenes (1 Corinthians 1: 1), both Jews (Acts 18: 17). Paul wants to present the people of Israel to his readers, as a type in order to learn from it (: 11).
Key word in the first four verses is “all”. All were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses, and all ate the same spiritual food. The described people were unprecedentedly privileged! That was recognizable for the Corinthians, for they were either. All. Also they had day and night the privilege of God’s spirit (“under the cloud”). They were saved out of the world (“through the sea”). Identified with Christ, he was their head (“baptized into Moses”). And such as the people received daily bread from heaven during the entire desert journey, also the Corinthians ate heavenly manna, the word of God. Do you realize how enormously blessed you are?
