Ephesians 1:23 – the all in all
30-04-2018 - Posted by Andre Pietwhich is His body, the complement of the One completing the all in all.
The perspective here is universal! Christ is the Head over all, and in that function he is supplemented by the ecclesia, i.e. his body. The subject is “all” and Christ is placed over it. That is the entire creation; the heavens and the earth. God’s plans are all-including. No creature is exempted. Even if each is in his own class. And even if some are called to be first and others to be next.
God is going to subject all under Christ’s feet. And as if that wasn’t enough, somewhere else is added that nothing in creation is excluded from that. The Scripture never fails to emphasize that. God is only satisfied when each of His creations shares in the rescue work of his Son.
It’s the task of Christ to return entire creation to God. Only when that task is fulfilled, Christ’s mission is accomplished. No child of humanity will miss, because all will be made alive, and then Christ will hand over a perfect Kingdom to his God and Father. Then God will be all in all (1 Corinthians 15: 28)!
