Trump Presents Board for Peace

During the World Economic Forum in Davos, Donald Trump presented his Board for Peace. Approximately 35 countries have joined, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Turkey. Notably, virtually no EU country is participating; only Hungary has joined. France and the United Kingdom are deliberately keeping their distance. European governments fear that this council will function as a competitor to, or alternative for, the United Nations.
Originally, the council was intended for Gaza, but Trump indicated that it should be given a much broader role. He even speaks of a “first step toward peace in the world.” Russia is also becoming explicitly involved: Putin has offered to make one billion dollars available for Palestinian aid through this council.
For those who take biblical prophecies seriously, this is more than geopolitical news. Scripture speaks of a coming apparent peace: a peace that promises stability, but offers no real solution. A new international platform that seeks to bring order, security, and mediation precisely in the Middle East fits strikingly well within that prophetic framework. Whether this Board for Peace will actually come to fulfill that role remains to be seen — but the direction is telling.
