Sharp around the corner! – Menno Haaijman

I’ve just received a book written by my good friend, brother, and fellow warrior, Menno Haaijman. The book is titled “Scherp door de bocht” (Sharp around the corner). Though I haven’t finished reading it—just a few pages remain—I can already recommend it with confidence. I have two compelling reasons.

Firstly, Menno has the ability to formulate with great intensity and precision. Paired with a writing style that immediately grips the reader and carries you into his argument, his texts “read like a train,” as he previously demonstrated in his novel De Maskilim.

Secondly, even before reading it, I can wholeheartedly recommend the book because I’ve been personally involved in creating every chapter. It’s a curated collection of (edited) speeches Menno delivered over the past twenty-five years—always in collaboration with me. I know the content because I was often the first to hear these messages and sometimes helped propose the topics. So I know what Menno aims to say, and I fully stand behind it—even though the content naturally rests with him .

Menno’s speaking and writing style is warm, engaged, personal, and sometimes emotional. He observes sharply and chooses his words with precision. He respects every jot and tittle of Scripture like no other. He has invested countless hours—possibly tens of thousands—in applying his linguistic skills to the interlinear Bible program of the ISA project. His love for what “is written” characterizes all his speeches. Compromising here is unacceptable to him; in this area, he is very black-and-white. Understandably, his talks are often experienced as confrontational—not short, but certainly sharp around the corner, hence the apt title for the book. I wholeheartedly recommend it!
