Romans 7:24 – A wretched man am I – I thank GOD
12-05-2021 - Posted by HansA wretched man am I! What will rescue me out of this body of death? Grace! I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The vain efforts that Paul described above lead him to exclaim, “A wretched man am I!” Desperate yet a logical conclusion. The defeat intensified as the battle intensified. It is like someone who ends up in a rip current between two sandbanks and discovers while struggling to get further and further from the beach. The fight is pointless. In fact, fighting only worsens the situation.
Recognition of the bankruptcy of one’s own work is necessary. Because only then will one have to stop working. From an experimental knowledge that the “I” cannot contribute anything to the fulfillment of the law. Then one has to renounce oneself and one cannot help but look upwards. Where else?
This body is subject to death and thus also to sin (6: 6). Real LIFE is not available on this side of the grave. It is precisely in this observation that hope and prospects shine. Because I cannot save myself, but thanks to GOD there is Jesus Christ in whom the LIFE can already be found!
