Romans 6:10 – Once for all time

16-02-2021 - Posted by Andre Piet

… having perceived that Christ, being roused from among the dead, is no longer dying. Death is lording it over Him no longer, for in that He died to Sin once for all time, yet in that He is living, He is living to God.

As the firstfruits, Christ was raised from the dead. Once and definitive. Like the daughter of Jairus or Lazarus, he need not die a second time. It is not only that death no longer controls him, He is completely beyond the reach of death.

Now that death for Christ is a thing of the past forever, sin is also a thing of the past. After all, sin reigns until death (5:21). Christ’s death therefore also means the death sentence for sin. “Once For all time”. And now that he lives (i.e., in incorruptible glory), the problems of sin and death are irreversibly and permanently behind him.

That is what can really be called ‘life’. What we call ‘life’ here on earth is dying in slow motion. But what the Firstfruits Christ brought to light when he was raised from the dead is LIFE with all capital letters. In close proximity of and in dedication to GOD!
