Romans 15:30 – Struggle together in prayers

16-03-2022 - Posted by Hans

Now I am entreating you, brethren, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the spirit, to struggle together with me in prayers to God for me, that I should be rescued from the stubborn in Judea..

Before Paul would visit Rome, he now had to go to Jerusalem to pay the proceeds of the collection there (Acts 19:21). But Paul dreads his visit to Jerusalem and already has a premonition of the troubles that await him there. And the nearer he approaches Jerusalem, the more this foreboding turns into a certainty. For when he makes a speech in Miletus a short time after writing this letter, he says that he is repeatedly certified from God that captivity and tribulations await him in Jerusalem (Acts 20:22,23).

Because of the dark clouds hanging over Jerusalem, Paul is advised from all sides to refrain from visiting the city (Acts 21:12). However, Paul is determined, but that makes his journey all the more a struggle. He encourages his beloved readers in Rome to contend with him in prayers on this matter. How precious is the support of kindred brothers in such circumstances!
