Romans 1:26– Dishonor, worth-less

Therefore God gives them over to dishonorable passions. For their females, besides, alter the natural use into that which is beside nature.

Phase 1: God as GOD and Creator is explained away. Phase 2: Passions lose their honor. “Dishonor” (Gr.atimia) literally means: without value or price. We regularly hear and read about a lack of “norms and values”. Not very surprising in a world that is disoriented and does not know (anymore) about its Creator.

Norms are firm facts, a guideline. They form a standard that can be assumed, independent of feelings, subjective findings and the issues of the day. A standard gives consistency amid confusion, just as an anchor gives consistency to a ship in the turbulent waves of the sea. Obviously, an anchor must be cast outside the ship. By definition, creation does not find fixed norms and values in itself.

The creature finds a hold and real value only in the Creator. After all, he loves creation, takes full responsibility for it and begets it in her new life. Happy expectation! By “incorruptible seed”, that is “the living and permanent word of GOD” (1 Peter 1:23). Without that lofty allusion to above, sexuality is just plain and low to the ground. Dishonorable and worthless.
