Romans 1:21 – Darkened heart
13-08-2020 - Posted by Andre PietBecause, knowing God not as GOD do they glorify or thank Him, but in vain were they made in their reasonings, and darkened is their unintelligent heart.
Paul describes what happens when a human does not glorify or give thanks to God as GOD. The first consequence is that reasoning is thwarted. I.e. arguments run aground and conclusions are invalid. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and that is also true for reasoning. If the premise is no good, then the rest of the reasoning may be so clever, however, the conclusion will be no good.
The second consequence is that ” darkened istheir unintelligent heart” The heart is unintelligent, which is obviously not a statement about IQ. That may be so high, but not starting from the basic truth that God is GOD is (excusez moi) stupid. But not only that, it also darkens the heart. Without a view of God who is GOD, it becomes dark inside. Because the biggest questions remain unanswered, in other words dark. Who am I? Where do I come from and where does everything lead to? How different everything becomes for those who do know God as GOD. Then the thinking becomes effective (intelligent!) And the heart radiantly illuminated!
