Philippians 3:21 Who will transform our bodies

… awaiting a Savior also, the Lord, Jesus Christ, Who will transfigure the body of our humiliation, to conform it to the body of His glory…

In several places in his letters, Paul speaks of the unimaginable moment of the transformation of our bodies when the Lord Jesus Christ comes down from heaven and we will then go to meet Him (1Cor.15:51-54; 1Thes.4:15-18 ).

This transformation takes place on two consecutive occasions. First the trumpet of God sounds, whereby those who are reposing in Christ will be raised up in glory. Right after that the next trumpet blast sounds (“the last trumpet”) in which the then living believers will be changed in one indivisible moment. So first the dead and then the living. Both groups are being transformed from completely different backgrounds, but with one goal: to be conformed to the body of Jesus Christ’s glory. He was the first ever to be resurrected in incorruption, glory, and power, with a “pneumatic” and heavenly body (1 Cor. 15:42-49). We will soon be transformed according t that model. We are destined for that (Rom.8:29)!

And after that? Then the resurrected dead will, along with the transformed living be simultaneously snatched away together in clouds to meet the Lord in the air. That is the expectation that will soon become reality!
