Genesis 17:5 – Your name will become Abraham30-11-2020 - Posted by Andre Piet
So your name shall no longer be called Abram but your name will become Abraham, for a father of a throng of nations have I appointed you.
When God spoke the above words, Abram was now ninety-nine years old. He is promised that he and his old and childless wife, Sarah, would become father and mother the following year. Completely impossible in human terms. But so what ?. Where human beings, science or technology end, that is where faith begins.
The two elderly are given a name change by God. The Hebrew letter ‘hé’ (5) is added to their names. This letter has the meaning of ‘window’. View, that’s what they receive. Because when God closes a door, He opens a window!
While still childless, Abram is given the name ‘father of a throng of nations’. Isn’t that funny for someone who is elderly and childless? Who you are is not determined by what you see and feel. Not even because of what others think. But by GOD who oversees and controls the future. GOD called him Abraham. So whenever he heard this name, he was reminded of his identity … in GOD’S eyes. Then you really know who you are!
