Galatians 2:21 – NOTHING of ourselves

05-11-2019 - Posted by Andre Piet

I am not repudiating the grace of God, for if righteousness is through law, consequently Christ died gratuitously.

Paul has a fierce confrontation in the Galatians letter with people who claim that only the one who follows the law of Moses is righteous. That is just not a matter of use and ethics. To maintain whether or not circumcision, the Sabbath or all kinds of food laws. No, it’s much more fundamental. The claim in Galatia was a denial of the grace of GOD. For if anything of man himself were a contribution to our justification, then Christ died in vain.

The truth of the Gospel is that Christ has accomplished everything. He died to be able to rise from the dead so that all people would be justified, saved and vivified (Rom. 5; 18; 1 Tim. 4:10; 1 Cor. 15:22). Christ’s death on the cross is the guarantee that the whole world will reap the benefits of what he has accomplished! Everyone in his own class.

That Christ died decides everything. Therein lies the guarantee of the salvation of the world. Whether we know or acknowledge that or not. That’s the good message and I believe that!
