Galatians 1:16 – To unveil His Son in me.

22-05-2022 - Posted by Hans

Now, when it delights God, Who severs me from my mother’s whomb and calls me through His grace, to unveil His Son in me that I may be evangelizing Him among the nations…

There is a special parallel between what Paul declares about himself here and the prophecy about “the Servant of YAHWEH” in Isaiah 49:1-6. There we read about the Messiah who from the womb (!) was already set apart by God to restore Israel and to gather the people. But in vain, for Israel does not listen. And then God says to the Messiah: It is too little that you should gather only Israel: I glorify you and make you a light to the nations (Isa.49:6).

And now we go to Acts 13… When Paul (along with Barnabas) in Antioch preaches the Gospel in the synagogue, he decides to turn to the nations because of the unbelief of the Jews. “For,” he says, “thus has the Lord instructed us” (Acts 13:47) and he then quotes Isaiah 49:6: “I have made you a light to the nations…”. in other words when Christ is made a light to the nations, it is fulfilled in Paul’s ministry. God reveals his Son to the nations…in and through the apostle Paul!
