Ephesians 6:8 – Appreciation that really counts

…with good humor slaving as to the Lord and not to men, being aware that, whatsoever good each one should be doing, for this he will be requited by the Lord whether slave or free.

The subject is still the attitude of the believing slave would show in relation to his lord. He would not follow commands with a long face but with a good mood. He does not primarily serve his earthly lord but the lord above.

In addition, “masters according to the flesh”(:5) easily overlook the good things of their slaves. Or do not want to see it. How different is it with the Lord Christ. He knows how to appreciate all the good that is done. Not what but how we have done things. That is what counts. With which attitude.

The Biblical idea is that after reaching the finish line of this life the ‘medals will be distributed. Not because of what we have done, but for what GOD has been able to do in and through us. Then the appreciation that really matters will come to us. Whoever you are. That is the “incorruptible wreath” (1 Cor. 9:25).
