Ephesians 1:3 – Among the celestials

04-04-2018 - Posted by Andre Piet

…Who blesses us, with every spiritual blessing among the celestials, in Christ…

All the blessing that the believers receive are “among the celestials”. Five times we come across this expressions in this letter (1:3,20  2:6,  3:10,  6:12). In some translations we read about “ in the heavenly realms”. Others think of heavenly things and still others think of celestial people and therefore translate: among the celestials. That is all possible; the greek term is broad enough to include all that.

One thing is certain: “among the celestials” refers to the atmosphere where God seats Jesus Christ at His right hand (1:20), above all that exists. He is not on earth but above, in the heavens.

The blessings that had been promised to Israel were tangible and earthly. A large piece of land, a temple, a visible worship, a good harvest, health, prosperity, dominion over the nations, and so on. But now, in this time when Israel is temporarily sidetracked and the Messiah is hidden, the situation is completely different. Our blessings are, invisible to the eye. Spiritual. But that is because they are so much higher: among the celestials!
