Colossians 2:7 – Rooted and confirmed 

Having been rooted and being built up in Him, and being confirmed in the faith according as you were taught, superabounding in it with thanksgiving.

The Colossians were taught “in the faith,” that is, in facts that you can trust and that are established so that you can be confirmed in them. Because you can only build on solid ground. How could a tree be established without being rooted? The key words in the above verse (rooted, built and confirmed) have the core idea: firmness.

People do not find stability in their own experiences and feelings. Because nothing is as flexible and variable as emotions. The word itself says it all: e-motions, those are (mood) movements. Our performance is not consistent either. They are usually disappointing.

We find solid ground in the great facts of Christ’s resurrection from the dead and his place at GOD’S right hand. Do you want to know who you are in GOD’S eye? Look up to Him! Curious about your future? Look at Him, as we are connected to Him like head and body! That is the solid bedrock on which we are built “in him”. That makes grateful, happy and even overflowing with thanksgiving. Because nothing from man himself. Zero point zero. Everything from Him!
