Greenhouse-belief: hot air

Climate change, as seen today in phenomena like rising temperatures, is almost certainly caused by humans. At least, that’s according to the latest report from the United Nations climate panel, the IPCC, which was presented this morning in Paris. However, there are plenty of experts who don’t believe a word of this story.
They point out, for example, that between roughly 950 and 1450, the earth also experienced a relatively warm period. It was likely even about three degrees warmer than it is today. The North Pole was ice-free, and the Vikings cheerfully grew crops in Greenland. Fluctuations in climate are quite normal—without humans playing any significant role.
One of those who scoffs at the so-called “greenhouse-belief” is geophysicist Adriaan Broere. According to him, a single volcanic eruption has “more impact than six billion people with cars, airplanes, and industry over the course of a hundred years.” He acknowledges that the earth has warmed by half a degree over the past hundred years, but: “what they fail to mention is that this rise occurred mostly before 1948, whereas the increase in CO₂ in the atmosphere has only become significant over the last 40 years. So the temperature increase simply cannot have been caused by that.”
“Responsible for all temperature fluctuations on earth is the sun, especially sunspots, which are concentrated in so-called magnetic fields and follow a cycle of 9 to 14 years. The length of that cycle determines 99.9 percent of the earth’s temperature. Processes on the earth itself, like volcanoes and geysers, account for the other 0.1 percent.”
“That melting polar ice caps cause sea level rise is a falsehood—even a high school student with a bit of physics knowledge can see through it. Ice has a greater volume than water—think of a jam jar that cracks when it freezes. Most of the ice masses of the polar caps are located underwater. When these caps melt, the volume doesn’t increase but actually decreases—and the sea level drops.”
“It is also questionable whether these ice caps are actually melting due to global warming. Because rising temperatures increase evaporation, and that leads to more precipitation, which falls at the poles as snow. So the snow and ice masses at the poles will actually grow instead of shrink. Recent satellite observations have confirmed this as well.”
And why is the voice against the false information from the UN so rarely heard?
Broere:
“That’s simply not true. More than 17,000 scientists, climatologists, and meteorologists signed the Oregon Petition on May 1, 1998, taking a stand against this misrepresentation of the facts (…) But these scholars are boycotted and excluded from policy committees. Sensational disaster scenarios simply sell better than reliable scientific data. It is mainly certain meteorologists who claim they can predict the world’s climate years in advance, down to the degree.”
Once again, we see the classic phenomenon at play: that humanity, broadly speaking, prefers to suppress the truth. Where the Creator is reasoned away, man imagines he himself holds the fate of creation in his hands. But that illusion will be shattered—sooner or later. A volcanic eruption or an earthquake may be all it takes.
“He Who is sitting in the heavens shall be laughing…”
