children of one Father?

QUESTION: Is everyone of mankind a child of God? ANSWER: That depends on what we mean. Everyone of mankind, as a creature, has come out of God (Rom.11:36). Therefore, He is their Father. “Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us?”, we read in Malachi 2 verse 10. As well, on Mars Hill Paul said to his listeners, without distinction: “…we are the offspring of God …” (Acts.17:29–KJV). However, the Bible, in addition to speaking of a creation, also speaks of a new creation. That is the creation of which Christ, by his resurrection from the dead, is the Firstborn (Col.1:18). “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation” (2Cor.5:17). That is why, for an additional reason, those who are “in Christ”, are called “children of God” (Rom. 8:16,21, 1Joh.3:1, etc.). They are not only creatures, but also new creatures! Not only born, but also born again (1Petr.1:3; Tit.3:5). They are children of God in a double sense! There will come a time when every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord… to the glory of God the Father (Phil.2:11). Then, indisputably, He will be the Father of everyone of mankind, and that in the fullest sense of the word! ——————————— translation: Peter Feddema
