1Corinthians 1:7 – awaiting the unveiling (2)

…awaiting the unveiling of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We noticed that the Corinthians lived in the time of Acts, in which they strongly considered the return of Jesus Christ in that generation. For Israel, the door was not locked yet. It goes without saying that this made the expectation of the believers extra exciting.

Once at the end of his life, in his last letter (2 Peter 3:3), Peter foretold that there would come a time when scoffers would say: where is the promise of his coming? But then he emphatically states that the Lord has not delayed his promise. But also that his readers would realize that for the Lord, one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as one day (3:8). In other words, since 30 AD almost two days have passed for the Lord. Prophetically that is extremely remarkable! Because, isn’t it written that the Lord would return “after two days”? And that He would restore His people Israel “on the third day”? (Hosea 6: 1-3).

Again, like the Corinthians back then, we live today in exciting times. But this time it is definitive. We are waiting for the revelation of our Lord, Jesus Christ!
