1Corinthians 1:24,25 – God’s Power and wisdom

13-11-2018 - Posted by Andre Piet

…we are heralding Christ, crucified, to Jews, indeed a snare, yet to the nations stupidity. Yet to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ, the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Paul’s message was unacceptable to the masses of the people. And it still is. A Christ who has been crucified is (to say the least) bot Jewish-religiously and Greek-philosophically speaking, not ‘politically correct’. Paul recognized this as a given. He also did not attempt to make his message acceptable or attractive. Paul told the truth an revealed irrefutable facts. (see. 2 Cor. 4;2).

Where the average listener dropped out, however, there were others who knew they were called. ‘Called’ are those who are known and destined by God beforehand (Rom. 8:30). They are therefore called by God and convinced by Him of the truth. Faith is a gift from God! And while the world stumbles over the foolishness of the word of the cross, they recognize that the one crucified, is the one resurrected from the dead! “He was crucified out of weakness, nevertheless He is living by the power of God” (2 Cor. 13:4). The evangel is the good message that he who was crucified by the world, was vivified once and   for all by God. He is God’s power and wisdom!
