1 Timothy 6:16 – Who alone has immortality

10-07-2024 - Posted by Hans

Unto the advent of our Lord, Christ Jesus, which to its own eras, the happy and only Potentate will be showing: He is King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality making His home in light inaccessible.

In addition to this, the concept of ‘immortality’ also appears twice in Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians (15:53,54). Immortality (Gr. athanasia) means: death is made ineffective. In 1Corinthians 15, Paul shows that Christ’s raising from the dead is the basis and guarantee of the ultimate vivification of all.

However, this universal vivification of all who die in Adam takes place in orders. First Christ, who was raised by God as the ‘firstfruits’ two thousand years ago. He dies no more as death no longer has power over Him (Rom.6:9). The second order of vivification will be in Christ’s parousia. And the third and final order is at the end of Christ’s reign when He will vivify the rest who are then still dead. Then there will be no more death and the definitive proof will have been provided that “God is vivifying all” (1 Tim. 6:13!).

Until His future appearing, our Lord Jesus Christ is the One “who alone has immortality.” He is the Firstfruits and so far the only one who has immortality. But also the guarantee that the rest will follow. No one excepted!
