1 Corinthians 9: 11,12 – for free!

If, in expectation, we sow the spiritual in you, is it a great thing if we shall reap of your fleshly things? If others are partaking of this right from you, are not rather we? Nevertheless we do not use this right, but we are forgoing all, lest we may be giving any hindrance to the evangel of Christ.

In the previous section Paul used examples from the agriculture where it’s evident to eat from the work provided. Even for a fox this measure counts! Now Paul goes on with the same example. He says that he worked himself as a sower. But in a much higher sense, in spiritual things. Is it too much to expect taking profit from it in fleshly things? That they would supply him shelter and livelihood? And if other workers in Corinth made use of that, then Paul had that right much more, isn’t it? Note: by his preaching the ecclesia arose!

And then Paul says what it’s all about. Paul doesn’t claim anything and he doesn’t ask anything from others. I repeat: nothing! All focus would be on the 100%  free evangel of Christ!
