1 Corinthians 8:6 – Source & channel

11-06-2019 - Posted by Andre Piet

… nevertheless   for us there is one God the Father, out of Whom all is, and we for (eis = into) Him, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through Whom all is, and we through Him.

Here, Paul flawlessly expresses the relationship between “one God the Father” and “one Lord, Jesus Christ.” Paul does this by using three different prepositions: “out of”, “into”, and “through”. The one God is the one “out of Whom all is and we into Him”. And the one Lord is the one “through Whom all is”. God the Father is the Source and the Purpose. Jesus Christ is God’s Channel and Instrument.

God spoke and through His word He produced all things (John 1:1-3). He spoke and it was there. It is the same “word” (logos) that later became flesh, John writes (1:14), and has lived among us. That is Jesus Christ: the incarnate Word of God.

God is the Invisible and Jesus Christ is God’s Image or Icon (Col. 1:15). Through him we see God. And Paul writes in 1 Tim. 2:5: “There is one God and one Mediator of God and mankind, a man, Christ Jesus”. Through him, God comes to us. And through him we also go to God!
