1 Corinthians 7:13,14 – Hallowed

24-04-2019 - Posted by Andre Piet

And a wife who has an unbelieving husband and he approves of making a home with her, let her not leaver her husband. For the unbelieving husband is hallowed by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is hallowed by the brother.

What Paul wrote about the man who would not leave his unbelieving wife, applies of course equally to the woman who has an unbelieving husband. Certainly, it can cause a huge amount of friction when the most important aspect of life cannot be shared in a relationship. But that is never a reason for a believer to end the marriage.

A believer is not desecrated by his unbelieving marriage partner. No, the exact opposite is true: the unbelieving partner is hallowed by the believing partner. That is not a task to be done by the believer. No, it is a given fact that one can thank GOD for every day!

Hallowed means: set apart. Even though the husband is unbelieving, he has been placed in a special position. Because he is in a house where GOD’s Evangel sounds. The living GOD is also his Savior, whether he believes it or not. That foundation cannot be broken!
