Paul was in Ephesus, but “in the spirit” he was in Corinth. And when, later, this letter was read out under the Corinthians, they listened to Paul, like he was in their midst.
Paul already wrote about the reprehensible behaviour of the man (: 1). He underlines that what he writes is not his subjective opinion, but the word “of our Lord Jesus”. By Him he was surely delegated. All what Paul writes, carries the authority of that name. That is also today, when we are gathered in the name of our Lord Jesus. Then we are fortunately not subject to opinions of people. To “every wind of teaching”. No, to be gathered in the name of our Lord Jesus means that He is as our Head spiritually in our midst. And that we listen to what He tells us by his word. Written black and white. Complete. That is our base!
