1 Corinthians 13:12 – Full knowledge!

For at present we are observing by means of a mirror, in an enigma, yet then, face to face. At present I know out of an instalment, yet then I shall recognize according as I am recognized also.

The point of 1 Corinthians 13 is that Paul is preparing the Corinthians for a phase that was coming to an end. It was the fragmentary phase. Prophecy, “languages” and revelations of knowledge, they would cease. Because the stage of being minors would give way to “maturity”.

When the Word of GOD is completed (Col. 1:25), everything that GOD has to report is revealed. And also recorded in the scriptures. But until that time people still looked like in a metal mirror in which only contours are visible, without details. Once “maturity” dawns, one can see as “face to face.” The Corinthians still had to deal with missing pieces of the puzzle. The scriptures were not completed until the end of the apostles’ lives. The seventy books that they left provide a complete revelation of what GOD wants to be known.

We can hardly overestimate the privilege of possessing a completed, written revelation. Everything that is needed can be found in it!
