Romans 3:3 – The faith of GOD  

For what if some disbelieve? Will not their unbelief nullify the faith(fullness) of God? May it not be coming to that!

Okay, Paul determined that the Jew was entrusted with the words of God. After which the next question arises: what does that privilege mean if one does not believe? Later in this letter (chapters 9 through 11) this issue is discussed in detail: Israel’s unbelief in the present days. In the above verse Paul still expresses himself euphemistically by speaking of “some (who) disbelieve”. For he is concerned with the principle: does the unbelief of man (anyone) nullify the faith of GOD? What is more important: the disbelief of man or the faith of GOD?

Most translations do not speak of the faith of GOD but the faithfulness of GOD. Understandable, but in Greek there is really the common word for faith (pistis). What Paul points out is that no one puts more faith in the words of GOD (: 2) than GOD himself! And indeed: He remains faithful to those words. “If I am unfaithful, He will always be the same.” Not the unbelief of man but the faith of GOD is decisive and has the last word!
