1 Corinthians 16:19,20 – The best regards!

Greeting you are the ecclesias of the province of Asia. Greeting you much in the Lord are Aquila and Prisca, together with the ecclesia of their house. Greeting you are all the brethren. Greet one another with a holy kiss.

Paul writes this letter from Ephesus, where he has been active for three years (Acts 20:31). Aquila and Prisca (Luke always calls her Priscilla) were also closely involved there with Paul’s labor, as was previously the case in Corinth (Acts 18: 2). We know of this Jewish couple from Rome that they later returned to Rome and again had an ecclesia at home (Rom. 16: 5). Both had once become believers through Paul’s word and since then had been very active in spreading the Good Message. Apollos (16:12), just mentioned by Paul, had also become intensively involved in the Gospel through their teaching (Acts 18:26).

In the conclusion of such a letter and the greetings that are conveyed in it, we get a nice look at how the mutual relations were. Membership was unknown, neither was an institution and expensive church buildings. People simply gathered in houses. Around a Good Message that spread like wildfire. That was the power and in that people were cordially connected.
