1 Corinthians 10:22 – stronger than GOD?

By participating in the religious festivities in Corinth, the believers conformed to idolatry. But whoever does that is busy provoking the Lord. The only God does not tolerate sharing his place with other gods. That is unacceptable, period.
Surely there were strong social reasons for participating with the surrounding community. “Everyone does it right? Why are you making things difficult and do you stay aloof? You are álso religious right?” Those were undoubtedly some of the objections being told to the steadfast believers. It is not pleasant to be accused that you are acting inappropriately. Or that you are unloving, stubborn and haughty. Then you have to stand strong, not to succumb to such pressure (compare :12).
Many Israelites once died in the desert because they participated in the religious celebrations of the surrounding nations. GOD simply does not allow Himself to be mocked. For what a man sows, he will also reap (Gal. 6:7). GOD is always stronger. That is precisely what gives strength to stand and resist!
