1 Corinthians 6:20 – Bought with a high price!

…and you are not your own? For you are bought with a price. By all means glorify God in your body!

Paul argued that because GOD’s spirit lives in the body of every believer, they are therefore a temple. A residence of GOD. What happens in and with this temple is not without obligation. We are not our own, but GOD’s property. Bought with a high price. Of course Paul is referring to the ransom that Christ Jesus paid with the price of his life. Only by dying he could conquer death. But Christ did not die just like that; he died “the death of the cross.” That’s how we were redeemed; that is our value in GOD’s eyes!

So my body is not my own but a temple of GOD. Bought with the highest possible price. That is what I am and what my value is. My value is therefore not determined by how I feel about myself. Also not because of what others think of me. My worth has already been established and has been proven by God. My body is not ‘supposed to be’ GOD’s temple, no, it is GOD’s temple. By realizing that, I glorify “the GOD” in “my” body. That makes my existence valuable!
