1Corinthians 3:3 – Fleshly thinking
09-12-2018 - Posted by Andre PietMilk I give you to drink, not solid food, for not as yet were you able. Nay, still not even now are you able, for you are still fleshly. For where there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly and walking according to man?
That the Corinthians still did not endure “solid food”, was not due to their IQ. Because even though this “solid food” is indeed education for advanced students, one does not have to be an intellectual for it. What matters is the realization that “the flesh” (read: the human being, with all his knowledge and expertise) does not carry weight for GOD.
‘Fleshly’ orientation puffs people up. It works as sourdough: it causes people to bluff. It seems to be a lot, but it is nothing. That is what was going on in Corinth. With this attitude, man will find himself important and that is the ideal breeding ground for mutual jealousy and strife.
On the other hand, where man becomes spiritually mature, he begins to realize his own smallness. Instead of being focused on ‘the flesh’ one learns to know GOD and the value of his purpose, his hidden wisdom and his strength! That is what counts!
