Ephesians 3:6 – A joint body

11-06-2018 - Posted by Andre Piet

…the nations are to be joint enjoyers of an allotment and a joint body and joint partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus, through the evangel…

To summarize the contents of “the secret of the Christ”, Paul uses the word “joint” or literally “together” three times. As a second characteristic he mentions “joint body”. The believers from the nations together form one body with Christ Jesus. They are included in his body: incorporated. They are therefore also co-partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus. That which has been promised to Christ Jesus, they share in.

The unification with Christ Jesus and sharing in his position and in his heavenly glory is the most characteristic of the ecclesia. We died together with Christ, we were buried with him and raised together with him. We have also been put together with him in the midst of the celestials and will also appear with him in glory.

When David prophesied that Christ would be put at God’s right hand (Ps. 110:1) or that everything would be subjected to his feet (Ps. 8), the ecclesia was included in it (Eph. 1-end). In this way the ecclesia is hidden in ‘the Old Testament’. What a huge position the ecclesia has in GOD’s eyes! It is dizzying – one with Christ!
