Ephesians 3:18 – Breadth, length, height and depth15-06-2018 - Posted by Andre Piet
…to grasp together with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and depth and height…
In the foregoing, Paul had written about GOD’s secrets that had been revealed to him. That made him bend his knees before the Father with the insistence that his readers, together with all the saints, would grasp what the width, length, height and depth of that is.
The breadth has to do with the scope of GOD’s work. It is all-encompassing and all-including. She is wide as the sea(of nations)! The length points out for us that long before the earth existed, God’s plans were ready. But also how into all the lengths of the eons, everything will be brought to a perfect end: GOD all in all! The height speaks of the heavenly height where to GOD has elevated Christ, Head and body. At his right hand! The depth, on the other hand, refers to the realm of the dead, to which Christ humbled himself: “unto death, even the death of the cross”.
In Job 11:7-9 we read:
“Can you find out the fathoming of Eloah? Could you find out the perfection of Him Who Suffices? These are LOFTIER than the heavens; what can you contrive? DEEPER than the unseen; what can you know? Its measure is LONGER than the earth and WIDER than the sea”.
