The Netherlands overheated

Yesterday I watched the broadcast in which Andries Knevel hosted the Islamic religion teacher Abdul van de Ven on Het Elfde Uur.
Abdul rejects violence but also spoke frankly, saying that he did not mourn the murder of Theo van Gogh.
Nor would he do so if Member of Parliament Geert Wilders were to die sometime within the next two years.
Well, now we know that too, I think to myself.

The broadcast triggered a wave of outraged reactions.
Minister Verdonk said on Radio 1:
“How can it be that we have sunk so low in the Netherlands. I am deeply concerned about this.”

But let’s take a moment to look in the mirror.
How would the Netherlands react if Abdul van de Ven were to be beheaded today or tomorrow?
The current atmosphere in the country is heated enough for it.

Wouldn’t a large percentage of the people who are now so fiercely outraged about Abdul’s statements, deep down be glad about such an outcome?

In other words: isn’t there a whiff of hypocrisy surrounding the hysteria that is currently gripping the Netherlands?
