religion versus Jesus27-01-2012 - Posted by Andre Piet
The video, below, is a modern poem by Jefferson Bethke. For weeks already, it’s been a big hit on YouTube. And rightly so! Jefferson Bethke criticizes, in no uncertain terms, the hypocrisy in religion, but also tells what the Evangel is really about. The radical message of Jefferson is listened to, by the Christian press, with gritting teeth. That was to be expected. Religion is still at odds with the pure grace of God. Nothing depends on man, but everything on God’s love.
Because it doesn’t depend on me it depends on him See because when I was God’s enemy and certainly not a fan He looked down and said I want, that, man
Religion tells us what we should do. The Evangel says, it’s done!
Now back to the point, one thing is vital to mention How Jesus and religion are on opposite spectrum See one’s the work of God, but one’s a man made invention See one is the cure, but the other’s the infection See because religion says do, Jesus says done
Religion wants to make the exterior look beautiful, but is not ever able to really change anyone (i.e., from within).
See the problem with religion, is it never gets to the core It’s just behavior modification, like a long list of chores Like lets dress up the outside make look nice and neat But it’s funny that’s what they use to do to mummies while the corpse rots underneath
Religion puts a man in a tight straitjacket of human rules and regulations, whereas, on the other hand, Jesus Christ makes us free, because HE does His work in us!
Religion puts you in bondage, while Jesus sets you free
Religion is based on the (so-called) merits of man. The Evangel is based on Jesus’ obedience alone.
Religion is man searching for God, Christianity is God searching for man Which is why salvation is freely mine, and forgiveness is my own Not based on my merits but Jesus’s obedience alone
Jefferson ends his rap with the words:
Which is why I’m kneeling at the cross, saying come on there’s room So for religion, no I hate it, in fact I literally resent it Because when Jesus said it is finished, I believe he meant it
