Philippians 3:9– Righteousness from God!

…and may be found in Him, not having my righteousness which is of law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is from God [founded] on faith.

Two kinds of righteousness are contrasted here. The righteousness that is of law and the righteousness that is from God . The righteousness of the law meets the standards set by the law.

Of a totally different order is “the righteousness from God”. It is not acquired by man himself, but comes from God Himself. The text confirms this with: it is righteousness by faith of Christ. The common rendering of “by faith in Christ” is downright fatal and robs us of the essence here. Because in that case it would still be one’s own righteousness. righteousness based on our faith. None of that! It is righteousness from God and by faith of Christ .

God fulfilled his promise by raising Christ from the dead, who went his way in faith. That is the guarantee that all mankind will be justified (Rom. 5:18). And where we believe that , we glory in the righteousness that is from God!
