Ephesians 6:17 – the helmet of salvation

And receive the helmet of salvation…

Earlier we memorized that the elements of the armour, mentioned by Paul, refer to the book of Isaiah. Also here (Isaiah 59: 17). Isaiah speaks of the Messiah who will establish his Kingdom and will triumph over his enemies. And what does he wear? A “body-armor of righteousness”. And “a helmet of salvation (Hebrew: jeshua’) on his head. Christ who will go out in triumph, wears an armour and that armour is imaged by Paul. For we are dedicated to replacing, together with Christ, all hostile forces (first “among the celestials”), we also wear the same armour as he does.

About the shield, in the shape of a door (faith), is said, that we would take it up (:16). But the helmet of the salvation we receive. That difference has a reason. That also counts for the subsequence of the weapon elements. When we are girded in truth, we have put on the body-armor of righteousness, we are sandaled in readiness of the evangel of peace, and we also take the shield of faith, then we also receive the helmet of salvation. Our head (read: thinking) finds protection in a guaranteed salvation!
