Ephesians 3:2 – The administration of GOD’s grace

30-05-2018 - Posted by Andre Piet

Since you surely hear of the administration of the grace of God that is given to me for you…

Paul is a prisoner on behalf of the nations (:1). But why him? The answer is: To Paul the “administration of the grace of GOD” was given with regards to the nations. Of what would we think with respect to ‘administration’?

The word on which the translation ‘administration’ is based is the Greek ‘oikonomia’ in which we can easily recognize our word ‘economy’. Some translations speak of ‘stewardship’ and again other translations speak of ‘household’. About Erastus we read in Rom. 16:23 that he was “administrator/steward of the city”. An administrator is not the owner but the manager of the household. He gives the directions.

When GOD gave the law to Israel on the mountain Sinai, He chose Moses as administrator (John 1:17). Well, what Moses meant for Israel, that is what Paul is to the nations. To him the “administration of the grace of GOD” was given. What GOD’s grace entails and how far-reaching this is, is made known through Paul. He makes clear how grace governs the house of GOD today. Do you have any questions about that? Then you must be with Paul. He is the administrator.
