Ephesians 3:12 – Through His faith

12-06-2018 - Posted by Andre Piet

…Christ Jesus, our Lord; in Whom we have boldness and access with confidence, through His faith.

Here, the common translations speak of “the faith in Him”. That is incorrect. This is not about our faith in Christ, but of His faith. In six other places in Paul’s letters we read of the faith of Christ Jesus. But alas, that is lost in the more current, more modern translations. One has made the faith of Christ, to be the faith in Christ. That is not only linguistically wrong, it is also a huge difference in terms of content!

It is the faith of Christ based on which a man is justified  (Gal. 2:16, Rom. 3:22). Just as every man is a sinner through the unbelief of one man (Adam), so are all people justified by the faith of one man (Rom.5:18). Because one man, Christ, “the last Adam”, was obedient to death, even to the death of the cross, the access to the living GOD has been opened. That is why we have boldness “with confidence”.

Our own faith is often shaky. But it is the faith of Christ, that is an absolute warrant for access to GOD. It is his faith – and that is what we believe in!
