Ephesians 1:4 – Designation in Love

Election always has a specific purpose. You are chosen with a view to a special task. Or to be something. Herein lies also the link with the other verb: designating (beforehand) also called ‘predestination’. Like a crown prince is destined to become king.
Many Christians shudder when they hear about election and predestination. Afraid of being told that God has predominantly predestined mankind for “damnation”. With the exception of ‘the happy few’. No matter how devoutly it is presented, it is a blasphemous concept.
In Scripture, election and predestination are always at the service of the rest of the people. That is why Paul writes: “in love”. God has a plan with all of his creation(1:10). After all, it is his creation, work of his hands. And He never lets that go. And in order to bring all of the creation to its destination, GOD chose some beforehand, to be his “tools” for this. Set apart (“saints”) and perfectly suited (“refined”) in his eyes. To be a channel of blessing for the whole universe!
