Concordant-Literary Bible Translation

A week ago I discovered via the Evangelical Broadcasting Organization (EO) website that (expectedly) next November a Dutch-language concordant-literary Bible translation will be published. For over thirty years Rev. Pieter Oussoren has been working on this unique project. “The starting point is to adhere as consistently as possible to fixed translation words…” so I read on the website. Also there I read that the new translation is intended:
– for those who want to know what the text really says
– for those who want to make the reading aloud of the Bible text into an event

These principles particularly appeal to me. A sample translation of the book of Ruth has now also been published, and as far as I have been able to check, the result is definitely worth it! The text reads simply because it is rendered in short lines (this is called colometric). The disadvantage of this, however, is that the edition threatens to become rather voluminous (1600 pages!). Not exactly a copy you can slip into your back pocket.

This project, supported by many undisputed experts, underscores once again that the concordant ideal in Bible translation is certainly not reserved (as is sometimes suggested) for narrow-minded, sectarian people who have no sense of language. But well, hopefully you already knew that.

I am really curious about the complete result that will see the light in November 2004.
