Colossians 2: 7 – superabounding with thanksgiving

10-12-2024 - Posted by Hans

…having been rooted and being built up in Him, and being confirmed in the faith according as you were taught, superabounding in it with thanksgiving.

What is the evidence that clearly shows that people are rooted and being built up in Christ Jesus the Lord? And that they are confirmed in the faith as Paul (and Epaphras) taught. The proof of this is that they superabound in thanksgiving.

Those who are grateful are grateful to the giver for what they have received. Gratitude is an attitude in which one is happy for what one receives freely. The Greek word for gratitude (eu-charistia) contains the element ‘charis’ which means ‘joy freely’ (=grace). The degree of gratitude is proportional to the awareness of what one receives for free. Having received much for nothing does not necessarily make you grateful. Only those who pay attention to this and ‘count their blessings’ are grateful.

Paul points out in this passage that as believers we are complete in Christ. Those who are rooted in that realization and built up in it become increasingly amazed at who GOD is. He also always finds new reasons to give thanks. Realizing that GOD’s way is not just good, but the best! When the heart is full of it, the mouth will naturally overflow with it!
