Colossians 2: 3 – All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge

… unto a realization of the secret of the God and Father, of Christ, in Whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are concealed.

Christ is the answer to all the great questions a person can ask themselves. For He is both the origin and the destination of the universe. The One in whom the unseen God portrays Himself. In Him all the treasures of ‘wisdom’ are hidden, which indicates that knowing Him offers perspective and overview (sofia > tsafah = watchtower). Anyone standing on a watchtower is ‘informed’, but will also see connections and coherence.

In Christ are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, but hidden. Logical, because Christ himself is concealed and hidden from view. This means that “all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” are available to everyone, but are only understood “in Christ.” Even though “the secret of God” is shouted from the rooftops, it remains hidden. Understanding and awareness of this is only available to those whose ears, eyes and hearts are open.

“The secret of God” here, as well as a few verses earlier (1:27), is Christ including his body, the ecclesia. As members of his body are also hidden in Christ (Col.3:1-3). We are part of God’s secret in which all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden!
