Colossians 1: 29 – Toiling and struggling

… that we should be presenting every man mature in Christ Jesus; for which I am toiling also, struggling in accord with His operation, which is operating in me with power.

Paul’s ministry went far beyond his calling to herald the Gospel. To him was also entrusted the task of completing the word of God and making known the secret that had been hidden for eons and generations. For Paul, proclaiming Christ meant making every person perfect in Christ. This Colossians letter shows what he means by that.

In this letter, Paul is passionately committed to protecting the Colossians from being captured by the philosophy and traditions of men. Everything with the aim of making it clear that they are complete in Christ. That Christ is not only enough when it comes to salvation, but that He is also all-sufficient when it comes to the great questions of the heart and mind.

It is this all-encompassing ministry in which Paul was opposed on all fronts. Now even as a prisoner. But Paul could not be stopped. He spent all his energy doing what he was called to do. Despite all resistance, slander and scorn. This power was clearly not his own…
