Colossians 1: 27 – Christ, the expectation of glory

To whom God wills to make known what er the glorious riches of the secret among the nations, which is Christ among you, the expectation of glory!

“The secret” or “the mystery” relates to the interval between the first and second coming of Christ. During that time, Israel has been set aside in unbelief while Christ as Head is hidden in heaven at God’s right hand. While, on the other hand, He is hidden among the nations in “the ecclesia which is His body.” To Paul this secret, which was hidden in previous generations and eons, has been revealed.

This means we know what “the secret” is. But God wants to make more known to His saints. Namely this: “what are the riches of the glory of this mystery.” “Christ among you (nations), the hope of glory”! Paul not only informs about “the secret”, he makes clear why it is so rich. And what makes this hope so glorious. Or better: who makes this hope so glorious.

Christ is “the hope of glory.” Because through Him, GOD will realize all His plans. In ever wider circles until finally everything is subjected and there will be no more death. No one is excluded and everyone is reconciled (Col.1:20)! And it is granted to us to be part of that Christ today as a body!
